The Squirrel and The Kittens

Recently we hosted our monthly Animal Communication practice group at our house. We were all standing in our great room talking when we noticed our barn kittens, Simba and Sophia, in our front yard. We all wandered over to see what they were up to, and noticed a grey squirrel hanging upside down on the trunk of a tree. It was quickly obvious that the three were interacting together, so we decided to watch and listen in to their conversation.

Conversation with an Angel

The Editor of Infinity has been asking us for some time to do an article about birds. Since we do not live with a domestic bird, we went searching for a family who did live with one.

Our friends Crystal and Nick Collins and their daughters Bree, Jackie, and Lila do live with a bird – a very beautiful Cockatoo named Angel. We asked if we could come and talk with Angel, and the family agreed. We asked Crystal and the girls to come up with some questions they would like to ask Angel, so that we would have some things to talk about when we came to her house.

What Is Healing?

That is a very interesting and complex question. The way we like to define healing is the return of an animal/plant/human or system to complete balance physically, emotionally, energetically, and spiritually.

When we work with humans and their companion animals in a communication session, we are facilitating the healing of a relationship through increasing the understanding between all involved. The word “system” in the above definition of healing includes relationship.

Interview With A Cat

While considering what to write about, the thought occurred that Ben the Cat had something he wanted to say. So, Cindy and I sat down with the laptop and had this conversation with our cat Ben: Continue reading

Springtime In The Country

We are fortunate to live in the country, and springtime is a wonderful, hopeful time of year. Our home is in the woods, and it is always a mystery as to which group of birds born here will come back to raise a family, and if they’ll nest in the same spot that their parents did.

We have noticed that the young ones seem to come back every second or third year for some species, and others are here every year – Towhees nest in our front peak every year, and the Wrens are expanding from their original nest on the screened porch to several new locations, including our Christmas wreath. The Hummingsbirds are back – three this year instead of two – and they are fascinating to watch. The Blue Jays born here a couple of years ago are back in force, and loudly announcing themselves to all.

Animal Communication Across the [Species] Border

We currently live with cats, dogs, horses, and iguana, and a host of wildlife on our property. We recently observed a truly unusual and touching event involving a dog, a cat, two horses, and some baby rabbits.

While out doing pasture chores – aka picking up horse puckies from the pasture – I heard our dog Bear barking and squealing frantically. Normally when she does this, it’s her “I see a squirrel and I want to CHASE IT!!!” noise. Usually our squirrels are smart enough not to come into the back yard, so I thought maybe one was in the pasture next to the fence. They do love to tease Bear! When she kept barking, I looked over to see what was happening.

Reflections on Fall

Fall and spring are my favorite time of year in Ohio. Terri, being from Oklahoma, enjoys summer. We agree that we don’t enjoy winter unless there is snow on the ground, a fire in the fireplace, and a good book in hand.Fall is a time of life for Nature – for plants and minerals, and for animals. We have a house and barn full of beings in the fall cycle of their lives, although some of us (Terri, Ben, and Rohan) are in early fall while the rest of us are a little further along. What this means for all of us is dealing with how aging effects us – both as humans with aging bodies, and as humans who live with aging animals. Continue reading

Losing an Animal Companion

We frequently receive calls from clients who are agonizing over a decision that all of us who live with animals dread – whether or not it is time to help their beloved companion die. Recently we went through this process ourselves with our Basset Hound Maggie Mae. While there are excellent books and websites that cover the topic of losing a pet, we want to share with you here what the role of animal communication and healing work can be in this process.

Here Kitty, Kitty (Part 2)

We received a lot of comments about our cat article in the last issue, so we thought we’d keep going with a good thing.

Some of the issues that our clients with cats call us about most frequently are litter box issues, marking in the house, and aloof or avoidance behavior. Here are some observations or suggestions we’ve developed that may prove helpful to others that live with cats: Continue reading

Here Kitty, Kitty (Part 1)

Recently someone called us for a referral to an animal communicator that talks to cats. Since our past articles have talked about dogs, they thought that we did not talk with cats. Indeed we do talk with cats…and horses, goats, iguanas, geckos, snakes, fish, birds, etc!

Over the next few articles, we thought we’d talk about some of our experiences with cats and then with other animals.
